Africa to WVA: The Johnson Report

September, 2016 | Hurricane, West Virginia

“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the Name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.” Colossians 3:17

We want to thank each of you for your love and labors for Christ. We are thankful for those who gave that we could again go to Kenya with a team this past July. A big “thank you” to those who went with us and worked so hard in many areas! For example: laying 300’ of electrical wire to connect the team house to the generator, cooking for the team (no small job), repairing many desks for the schools, teaching in the public school and also the Bethel Bible and Technical Schools, and having ladies’ teas as well as a pastors’ conference, were all part of the work. Also eight public schools were visited and Gideon New Testaments given to nearly 3,000 students; also Vitamin A and pencils to many of the school students. Each ministry was important and an example of Christ!

We are thankful also for those who gave so that ten new sewing machines could be bought for the technical school. They had two working machines for the 32 girls, so now they have 12. What a blessing for them. The machines did have to be assembled and that took many hours of work. Funds were given that some needy children could receive new uniforms for school. Labors of love made 13 wooden cut outs (see our June 2016 letter) to be given to Sunday Schools for use in teaching the story of Jonah, and also Wordless Books were made so those receiving them can also tell the Gospel of Christ.

It was such a blessing to see the personal witness for Christ that was given, and also the Sunday Schools and church ministries. On three of our Sundays, 10 of the 13 churches were visited, but one Sunday there were five churches covered at once, with the car going to one, motorcycles went to four churches, and the rest walked to the Isovya IPC near the mission. It was amazing to see the ladies going on the motor-cycles as well as the guys.

Back Home in West Virginia

Coming back home, we are busy in the fall ministry of deputation, getting back into our service with the Histimersby going on outings with them, and also taking flowers (about 25 mums) to those who cannot get out so much. The Jolly Seniors have started again. On this past Thursday there were nearly 150 who attended from various churches, to hear a musical and preaching program, and also enjoy a lovely lunch. At home, Gary loves his Bible time with Luke (see left), with Bible stories and videos. We delight to see how Luke has grown in the Lord. Pat will soon start the weekly missions lessons with the Good News Club in a local public school.

Thank you for sharing with us in these ministries by prayer, your encouragement, and gifts. You are indeed a needful part of the Lord’s work wherever we are, and we do appreciate you! As we labor together it is truly in the Name of Jesus Christ.

In His Service,
Gary & Pat Johnson
