Serving the Lord in the Andes Mission

“They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:23

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is our prayer that this letter finds you all well and enjoying our Heavenly Father’s blessings.

We are all fine here, thanking our Lord for Janeth’s stable health and for having our eldest daughter back in Arica after a year studying at Pensacola Christian College. It is a great blessing to have Ruth Meylí here for her valuable help both at home and in our church. She will go back to the USA in August to continue studying, so we ask our Lord to guide her in every decision she may have to make and that the training she is receiving may be for His glory.

Thanks are also given to our Lord for the wonderful opportunity that Janeth had to travel south to visit her family and also for her health. She visited the churches in Chillán, Coihueco and Pinto where she was able to give her testimony of what God has done in her life, especially her health, and also thanked everyone for their prayers. On Sunday, May 13th, Janeth and her mother went to the Filadelfia Church for Mother’s Day. She also visited the Ebenezer Church in Coihueco with Sister Eulogia Quezada, her mother, and her sister. This is a very warm and friendly church. The congregation invited her to visit the church at Pinto where Jonathan was a pastor many years ago. We thank our Lord for the good time she had there sharing with her family, especially with her mother.

Jonathan thanks the Lord for the opportunity to visit the Iquique brethren to help them, as they do not have a pastor at the moment. He traveled over the weekend, and on Saturday met some families who were in need of counselling and support. On Sunday, Jonathan took part in the worship service and beforehand met to make some arrangements for the seminar which was postponed until August, as some of the potential students are currently sick. The Jaras would like to ask you to pray for the El Sembrador Church in Iquique that the Lord would provide a permanent pastor.

Of special note, we are very thankful to our God as we celebrate 15 years of our Berea Church. We had an unforgettable time as we had some great visitors such as Sister Primavera and her husband Kim. They are Koreans, and along with our family, were founders of our church. We also invited Brother Felipe Matamala and his wife Jessica Monje and their two children, Ambar and Josué. Some friends from Iquique also joined us on the occasion.

On Saturday June 9th we had a gathering with children of our church. We showed them a video about David and Goliath, played some games (pictured on top front), had a nice tea-time, and they also received a surprise gift box that our children, Ruth and Melissa, had prepared. They deserve this and much more for their faithfulness to our Lord and for attending every Sunday School meeting. They do not a miss a class! Sister Griselda González also prepared a special summary of our church history in PowerPoint. May our Lord continue blessing this church and make us stronger to reach more souls for His Kingdom.

On Monday, June 18th, Jonathan traveled to Iquique, as Brother Luis Santander had died. Luis was only 48 but had been suffering with heart problems. When we met him last March and talked to him about God, he decided to receive Jesus as his Savior. We were able to stay, talking and giving support to his family as they go through this ordeal.

Janeth and Pastor Jonathan are very happy because the Women’s Group is meeting once again, every Friday, to study the Bible; it is the book of Colossians. They had stopped meeting some time ago because of Janeth’s health.

We would like you to pray for the following, please:

  • A camp on July 18-21
  • The Congress of the Women’s Groups to be held in Arica on August 10-11
  • Children’s Day on Sunday, August 12
  • The Northern zone online seminar
  • Janeth’s health and test results
  • Our children Ruth Meylí, Jonathan and Melissa and their studies

Dear friends, we are and will always be thankful for your invaluable prayers and your financial support. May our Lord encourage you as we work together.

“In the day when I cried, thou answeredst me and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.” Psalm 138:3

Your Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Rev. Jonathan, Janeth, Ruth Meyli, Jonathan Edward, and Melissa Noemí Jara
