“Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.” 1 Samuel 7:12
Dear Co-laborers in Christ, greetings to you in the blessed name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
The year 2025 marks a significant milestone in both our journey with the Bible College of East Africa (BCEA) and our personal walk of faith. The Lord has preserved BCEA for the past 60 years, and by His grace, we give thanks for 20 years of missionary service in Kenya. Truly, Ebenezer—thus far the Lord has helped us.
The ministry of BCEA goes far beyond its buildings, diplomas, and charitable works. Its true legacy lies in the many faithful servants of God who have been trained here and are now serving across Kenya, as well as in Tanzania, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the DRC, Nigeria, Mozambique, and even Korea. Praise the Lord for His wondrous works! We remain ever grateful for your prayers and sacrificial support, which have sustained and encouraged us along the way.
Next, we would like to share with you some ministry updates and prayer requests.
I. Bible College of East Africa
We give thanks to the Lord for the graduation service of 2024, a clear testimony of His grace. A total of 23 students graduated. We were especially blessed by the visit of Rev. Dr. Prabhudas Koshy from Singapore, who was Eben’s teacher during his seminary days. Please uphold these new graduates in prayer as they enter the field according to God’s calling.
We also rejoice over the celebration of BCEA’s 60th Anniversary (pictured left). We were honored by the visit of IBPFM mission board member, Rev. Jim Blizzard, who shared the Word of God for this special occasion. Many alumni joined the event, including Rev. Justus Musymi, a graduate of the class of 1972.
As we reflect on 20 years of BCEA’s ministry in Kenya, we recognize the increasing challenges of sustaining full-time theological education. With the rise of online and part-time studies, the number of residential students has significantly decreased. Please pray earnestly for new students to respond to the Lord’s call, and for the Lord to raise up faithful teachers filled with wisdom and godly testimony. “The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few.”
II. BCEA Campus Church
May God be thanked for the continued blessings upon the Campus Church ministry. We are grateful for the Lord’s Day worship services, as well as the vibrant ministries of Sunday School, Junior Youth, Youth Fellowship, Men’s and Ladies’ Fellowships, choirs, and Saturday fellowships. We are also thankful for the pastoral team and the support of BCEA students who help carry out these ministries. Please continue to pray for the pastoral care of the congregation entrusted to us.
Eben had the privilege of baptizing two brethren on Christmas Day, and of conducting several Holy Communion services. We thank you for your prayers in these sacred responsibilities. He also had the somber task of conducting the funeral (pictured right) for Elizabeth, one of our longstanding church members whom we’ve known since 2008. Her passing was deeply sorrowful, especially witnessing the grief of her six daughters. Eben had even named her youngest child, “Lydia.” Though the loss was painful, we give thanks for the blessed hope we have in Christ.
III. Outreach Ministries
God is to be praised for answered prayers concerning Rev. Omweri. We have written about him in the past. Meeting him at the airport upon his return from treatment was an emotional moment. The Lord faithfully provided for all his needs through many caring hands. Please continue to pray for complete healing and that the cancer will not return.
Then, we give thanks for the ordination (pictured right) of two Maasai pastors, Rev. Jacob Kaika and Rev. John Letuya, who have served the Lord faithfully for nearly a decade. Despite the many cultural, financial, and logistical challenges of ministry in Maasai Land, they remain committed. We’re grateful to Rev. Blizzard for sharing God’s Word during the ordination service. Please continue to uphold these men and this ministry in your prayers.
In December, a Youth Camp was held for the churches under our mission, drawing approximately 260 young men and women. It was a blessed time of fellowship and spiritual renewal. Eben was privileged to preach at the opening service and to give a lecture on the theme “Living as a Christian in a Non-Christian World.” As is the case in many places around the world, fewer young people are remaining in the church due to increasing worldly influences. Please pray for the youth in Africa, that they would be strengthened in faith and live lives that honor and please our Lord.
IV. Prayer for the Yoon Family
• Please pray for the Lord’s provision and protection upon this family.
• Pray for Eben’s work permit, which has been pending for several months.
• Pray for our children, the MKs, in both their studies and spiritual growth: Haeun, our eldest, is studying in the U.S. Please pray for her future, that she may serve the Lord through her nursing career. Hajin, our second, has received multiple college offers. We ask for prayer for sufficient scholarships and wisdom as he makes his decision. Hahyun is entering adulthood and seeking God’s direction for his life. Hael, our youngest, is continuing to grow in faith.
• Please pray for Eben and Mijung, for continued spiritual strength and physical health.
• Lastly, pray for wisdom and clarity as Eben teaches Calvinism, Systematic Theology, and Homiletic Practice.
Thank you for your faithful partnership in the Gospel ministry. Your prayers, support, and encouragement are truly instruments in God’s hands. We look forward to that glorious day when we will rejoice together before the Lord, celebrating the fruits of these labors.
May the Lord richly bless you as you continue to serve Him wherever He has placed you.
In Christ’s service,
Eben, Mijung, Haeun, Hajin, Hahyun, & Hael
