Serving the Lord in Guatemala

July, 2025

Dear prayer partners,

We greet you all by sharing John 20:31: “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”

Most English Bible classes are voluntary classes, except for those in public school. The number of students for that day is determined by the students’ will. Sometimes, we conduct classes with only one student. When there are many students, our voices become louder, and our hearts become more excited. But, when there are few students, it can be disappointing.

The words of John 20:31 make us realize the preciousness of sharing the Gospel with even just one student in this small town of Patzicia. We are the vessel of carrying the Gospel to each person, so that he/she may believe and gain eternal life. Please pray that every person with whom we share the Word may obtain eternal life through the Lord Jesus Christ.

A. English Bible Reading Class

Our English Bible class is held every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The class is centered on the Gospel of John and is conducted according to the students’ English-language level. We study vocabulary based on Bible verses and learn the grammar. This kind of class satisfies the students’ desire to learn more about English, and conveys the meaning of the verses through the process of explaining the implication of Bible verses, and translating them into Spanish.

It is very difficult to decide the level of the class we have at the Tres de Junio Public Middle School. Classes are centered on simple vocabulary and songs. We pray that even through simple Christian songs, they may hear the Gospel. We also play basketball or soccer after class. It doesn’t look like an English class, nor even a Bible class. However, this is a fellowship in the Lord. Would you pray for them to have a greater interest in these things, and that God will be real to them through this fellowship.

Starting in July, we will also offer classes at INEB Maria Raimunde Public Middle School. INEB Middle School conducts afternoon classes, and since the total number of students is over 300, it is difficult to have English classes during regular hours, so we will organize a special class. Students who want to study English, and know the basics of English, are taught one hour before school starts. There are students who are enthusiastic and talented, even in a difficult environment. We want to be with these students so that they can grow with hope and faith in God. Please pray for us in this ministry.

Classes with the students and teachers at the Alan Juyu Technical School are held on Tuesdays. The classes are conducted for two weeks for students, and two weeks for teachers. Here, the class level is at a beginner-level, so these classes are conducted in Spanish rather than English. We are reading the Bible in Spanish while learning basic English grammar. Pray that the seeds of the Word, spreading among them, will take root in their heart and bear fruit. Please pray with us.

On Saturdays, we have the class for the students including scholarship students. There are intermediate and beginner students together, so the class progresses, yet not without some difficulties. Still, it is also a class where we can focus more on the Bible verses. The classes are conducted mainly in English. We do have some Roman Catholic students who study the Bible verses with us. We pray that through these Bible reading experiences, we will help them to know Jesus Christ and eventually accept Him as their personal Savior. Until that day comes, pray together for them.

B. Evangelism

Last month, we resumed the ministry at the San Lorenzo Elementary School. We partnered with a local pastor to give Bible lessons and various activities for the students. The number of students has decreased significantly; currently 31 students enrolled. It is a public school located in a deep mountainous area further into Patzicia. Though San Lorenzo seems a closed environment for outsiders, it is an area where we have been serving steadily, so we were able to resume the ministry at the school without any problems. Please pray that the road, to and from the church, will remain safe, as it is very stiff and narrow, and that the students of San Lorenzo will grow in their knowledge of God through these activities of the evangelism ministry.

C. Family News

Praise the Lord, who always prepares and guides our path, and thanks to you, prayer partners, who have prayed with us for our son, Joshua. Well, Joshua has started working at a Korean company here in Guatemala. We thank the Lord for giving him the willing heart and an environment to work in, with gratitude. Pray that God blesses him with the ability to handle his job well.

As life goes by, our bodies become weaker, but we are always thankful because, day-by-day, He gives us the strength and ability to handle the mission given to us. Likewise, we pray for you, our beloved prayer partners, to enjoy the blessings as the Lord walks you down every path of your life.

In His endless love,
Caleb and Debra Kang
