“Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.” Psalm 113:2
Dear Prayer Partners, Family and Friends,
Praise God for His mercies and blessings. As I look back over the spring and summer months, God was always with us. Back in May, the school year ended nicely, and all three boys moved up in their grades: Isaac moved to 10th, Gordon to 9th, and Jesse, to 3rd; and they were all happy.
Then, in June, a family reunion was planned. We had not had one for two years. My nephew, Kevin, and his sister, Laura, made the plans and even found the entertainment for us all to enjoy. We rented an SUV to make the trip. It worked out well as we all squeezed in with our luggage and all. But, we were on an adventure! In the SUV was Beth (54), her sons Isaac (16), Gordon (14), Jesse (8), and finally, me (86). We had a good drive to Nashville, Tennessee, and driving through the lovely countryside made it very enjoyable. On the way we didn’t use the interstate highway, but on the way home we did – it still took us nine hours to return. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable trip and everyone had a good time.
For July, two of the boys (Gordon and Jesse) went to their dad’s for the whole month. While they were away, I flew up to visit my sister in Utah. I invited a friend, who helped me write my book, to come along. We had a good time. They took us sightseeing into the mountains, something we do not have here in Texas. Then, we went down into Salt Lake City to see the sights there. While there, we learned of a music concert being held on the organ at Temple Square; so we went to listen. Afterward, my friend went down to talk with the organist. He even allowed her to play a song! She was so thrilled, as it was a dream of her lifetime to do so.
In August, school began again on the 6th, which was early for us. Jesse is in the 3rd grade, Gordon is in the 9th grade (freshman), and Isaac is in the 10th grade (sophomore); both boys are in the high school building.
Now, we are back into the school routine of going to bed early and getting up early to get to school on time.
Concerning myself, I had shingles in March, and it took six weeks to get over them. Then, in May, my left hip was hurting. The doctor said it was my sciatic nerve, and I was treated for it. Well, it did not help! So, I went back to the doctor and he did an x-ray, which showed osteoarthritis. An orthopedic surgeon confirmed it, but said I could take a cortisone injection or pain medicine. At this time, I chose pain medicine, and am feeling better now. Now that the weather is cooling, I have started walking again, with no trouble from my hip.
I am continuing to go to my church here and am enjoying the fellowship. As we get older we like to compare our aches and pains, usually saying to each other that it’s not fun getting older. Thanks to those who contribute to my support, I appreciate it so much. I am asking the Lord to bless, strengthen, and keep you. Also, thank you to those who are praying on our behalf. He is faithfully meeting our needs and providing for us.
Sincerely, in Christ,
Joan Davenport
