January, 2026
Dear prayer and mission co-workers,
May the Lord’s grace, mercy, and peace be with us all as we welcome the new year. As we reflect on the past and present of our kindergarten, where we have been spreading the gospel by God’s grace since last year, we would like to share with you how our God, our Ebenezer, has helped us to this point.
Kindergarten Ministry
Gospel Bible Presbyterian Church, where we serve, is located in a small village in Kandal Province, Cambodia. A new church building (pictured above) was built and dedicated in 2008. After the dedication ceremony, we operated the Gospel Kindergarten until 2010, but at that time, there were only two or three children attending. Therefore, we initially did not charge tuition. But in 2018, we began charging a small tuition fee.
In 2024, we opened two classes for four-year-olds and five-year-olds. Then in 2025, with God’s guidance and blessing, the Gospel Kindergarten expanded to include three classes for three-year-olds, four-year-olds, and five-year-olds, as well as an afternoon English class. Currently, there are seven teachers who teach and share the gospel with approximately 80 children. Below are pictures of the Sunday School teachers and staff, and the entrance ceremony for the seven teachers for the Kindergarten.
Gospel Church established our kindergarten to help bring to the villagers the gospel of Jesus and reach them with salvation. Therefore, we do not charge high tuition fees. We strive to ensure that children from low-income families can attend our kindergarten and hear the gospel.
To achieve this, we teach children more Bible verse memorization, hymns, and prayers, which are not taught in the regular kindergartens. Furthermore, all kindergarten teachers also serve as Sunday school teachers. And, if the kindergarten teachers are currently enrolled in college, we provide a half-tuition subsidy. Through the kindergarten, we indirectly demonstrate the church’s natural connection to the village. Yes, we were tempted to raise tuition significantly so as to become financially independent, but we have resisted this temptation.
Through the Gospel Kindergarten, we have gained a vision to erect a church building for the Living Water Church. We are also praying for those who will serve Living Water Church, and continue to pray with the vision to build a sanctuary, church, and kindergarten on that church site in the Lord’s time.
Our Church’s Earnest Prayer Request
There are two or three young people who have left the Lord and stopped worshipping with us, after graduating from middle and high school and college, and are trying to find jobs. This has happened before, but last year, we experienced it again. As they were going out into the world, we were reminded of our own weaknesses, as well as theirs. This made us realize how great a victory is in this battle, as faith that overcomes the world. We also realized how significant the unity and service of one person, in a rural church, can be. However, we will continue to preach and pray for the few who remain, so that they may be more thankful and maintain their faith through worship and service.
We pray that the Lord’s boundless blessings be upon you who serve our Cambodian ministry with sincere prayer and financial support.
In Christ,
Stephen and Lydia CHOI
