Serving the Lord in Guatemala

February, 2025

Dear prayer partners,

What were your prayers and plans for this new year of 2026?

“And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” (Luke 18:27)

We pray, with complete reliance on God’s power, for 2026 to be a year of more active sharing of the Scriptures and a greater dedication to evangelism and discipleship. Our ministry is focusing on the Bible and English. The evangelistic Bible study class focuses on English, while the nurturing Bible study class focuses on the verses of the Bible.

1. Evangelism: Chimaltenango El Tejar

In partnership with El Tejar municipal training center, located at the entrance to Chimaltenango, we will begin a Bible and English class on February 10th, for third-year middle school students attending public schools. Most public schools begin in the afternoon, so we will begin the class at 9:30 a.m. for one hour. Approximately 20 students are expected to participate. The class will focus on English study centered on the Bible. Please pray for the active and positive attitudes of the students participating. Since we do not yet have information on the students’ religious beliefs, we are preparing a basic evangelism course. Please pray for God’s blessings, for each participating student to know Him.

2. Discipleship: Patzicia El Mesias Middle School

El Mesias is a Christian middle school. For the 2026 school year, we are offering English Bible studies to third-year students. We have 29 students who are studying Bible verses and memorizing them in English. We pray that we can get to know each student better through sharing the Word. Please pray that this will be a time for each student to deeply understand God’s Word.

3. Evangelism: Maria Raimunde and San Lorenzo Public Schools

We are currently suggesting to change our English Bible study time at Maria Raimunde Middle School. Because student participation in the voluntary pre-school classes is low, moving it to the school class time is expected to increase student participation. The Bible English class provides a great opportunity for us to share the Bible with as many non-Christian students as possible. Please pray for a positive response to this suggestion.

We visited San Lorenzo Elementary School on December 16th, where we shared the message of Jesus’ birth and His salvation, and enjoyed games, snacks, and gifts. Two students, from the scholarship Bible study class, assisted with the program. It was a special and grateful time to be able to serve together. We plan to hold evangelism sessions once a month this year. Pray for the safety of our journey and the blessings of the Holy Spirit to the students and teachers.

4. Discipleship: Scholarship Classes

Jacqueline and Darlyn, both in the Intermediate English class, will be attending college in 2026. Jacqueline began her six-year course at a university in Xela, three to four hours from Patzicia. Darlyn will be enrolled in an online program, at a university in Guatemala City, for three years. Debra has decided to offer online English Bible studies with them due to their situations. With Jacqueline, being a Christian, Debra will focus on Bible studies for discipleship, while with Darlyn, being a Roman Catholic, Debra will focus on evangelism.  Darlyn majored in accounting in high school, but after several years of English classes with us, she went on to major in Secondary School Teaching in English. Please pray for these two students as they embark on a new chapter in their lives. We pray that God will work in Darlyn to know Jesus as her personal savior. Pray with us for this matter.

As each new year unfolds, we realize that our lives are undergoing changes. While some of these changes are positive and constructive, others involve physical and mental weaknesses we were previously unaware of. When we sense these changes, the question, “Can I do this?” often arises. The answers to some questions are predictable, while others are completely unknown. In those moments, the only thing we can do is pray in faith.

“He said, ‘What is impossible with man is possible with God'” (Luke 18:27).

Finally, please continue to pray for the Christian school project. While we cannot know the exact time for beginning, we have been given hope, and we will continue to pray, as long as the flame does not fade.

Dear prayer partners, we praise our Lord, who fills the heart with hope, joy and excitement while we pray. We trust that you will not give up yesterday’s hopes and continue to pray today as well, so that 2026 will be a year filled with joy because you are still praying.

 In His endless love,
Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Il Kang
