Dear prayer partners,
Just as Peter and John lived lives that reflected their confession (“We cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard”), we must ask if we are living lives in which we cannot help but speak of the love of Christ we have experienced in our own lives? Furthermore, if asked by what authority and in whose name we performed all the good works we have done as a Christian, what is our answer?
Acts 4:10 states, “Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.”
Our Christian life is to speak of the grace we have experienced through Jesus Christ, who died on the cross—the rock of our faith—and rose again from the dead.
1. Chimaltenango El Tejar English Bible Study
The English Bible classes, conducted in conjunction with local city halls, are divided into Basic Class 1 and Basic Class 2. Basic Class 1 focuses on the basics of English, studying one Bible verse per class. Basic Class 2 studies vocabulary and grammar using English texts centered on the life of Jesus Christ. The direction of this ministry is to strike a balance between English education for educational purposes and Bible study for evangelism, while also supporting financially disadvantaged Christian students so they can complete their schooling.
The El Tejar English Bible Class, which started in February, concluded its term on June 30th with a simple completion ceremony prepared by City Hall. There were 23 students at the start, but only eight completed the term. On July 30th, we started the new term with 10 students in Basic Class 1 and five students in Basic Class 2. Through the Basic Class 2 course, they are learning not only English but also the life of Jesus and the meaning of life as well. Please pray that these students will open their hearts to know Jesus.
2. Sumpango English Bible Study
Sumpango is a small town located about 40 minutes west of Guatemala City. In cooperation with the Youth Department of Sumpango City Hall, we began an English Bible study on June 9th. The class, which started with about 20 students, currently has around 10 students attending regularly. Although we recruited youth, students of various ages are studying. As the Basic Class 1, we study one Bible verse each week along with basic English grammar and conversation.
We are grateful that our ministry, which collaborates with city halls in various regions, is provided with a safe space for the class. Please pray that the scope of evangelism through education will become wider and deeper.
3. Scholarship
Scholarships assist students from disadvantaged family backgrounds with tuition or other necessary academic expenses, while also providing them with the opportunity to learn the Word through participation in English Bible class. Students who are unable to attend the English Bible class due to college enrollment or employment are excluded from scholarships. Currently, we are sponsoring one Christian student and two non-Christian students that are attending public schools.
Hillary is a 9th-grade student from a Christian family, who plans to enter a high school culinary program and become a chef. Michelle and Cristian are high school students at Sumpango Public School, where we served last year. They are currently participating in the English Bible classes that started this time, and we are sponsoring them as scholarship students. Michelle hopes to enter a university and major in accounting, while Cristian hopes to work after graduation before entering a university to major in computer engineering.
Would you please pray that each student may live a life with the Lord as their rock, and that their hearts may open so that they may know the Living Word one day.
4. Family News
Please pray for the health of our families, especially Debra. It seems that diseases, caused by frequent infections, are an unavoidable reality whenever we interact with people. Even in such circumstances, please pray that the Lord’s hand, which always protects us, will cover us.
Dear prayer partners, although we cannot prevent our flesh from weakening as we grow older, let us not grow weary. May we never cease to teach and proclaim the gospel of the risen Jesus Christ, anytime and anywhere. We do this because we have experienced His forgiveness of sin and are living only by His grace and love.
“They did not cease teaching and preaching that Jesus is the Christ, whether in the temple or in their homes, day after day.” (Acts 5:42)
By His Grace,
Caleb and Debra Kang
