Serving the Lord in East Africa

June, 2026

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”  Galatians 6:9

Dear Co-laborers in Christ,

Greetings in the blessed name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

As we reflect on the first half of 2026, we are once again reminded of God’s faithfulness. This June marks twenty-one years since our family first arrived in Kenya as missionaries. Through many seasons of joy, challenge, and change, the Lord has continually sustained us and His work. We remain deeply grateful for your prayers and partnership in the Gospel ministry.

Bible College of East Africa (BCEA)

We thank the Lord for a strong beginning to the academic year. The first term welcomed 28 new students, which was a great encouragement to us. Across Kenya, many theological institutions continue to struggle with declining enrollment, so we rejoiced to see a good number of students answering the Lord’s call to prepare for ministry.

The second term, however, began in early May with only four new students. While we thank God for every student He sends, this reminds us of the continuing need to pray that the Lord would raise up future laborers for His harvest field.

During the first term, Eben taught Systematic Theology and thebook of Joshua. This term he is teaching Systematic Theology, Calvinistic Theology, and Homiletic Practice. Please pray that God’s Word would not merely fill minds with knowledge but shape hearts for faithful ministry.

The new academic year also began with an unexpected challenge. During the first week of May, a severe windstorm swept through the campus. More than eight large trees were uprooted, including several that stood nearly sixty to seventy feet tall. Roads were damaged, and several CCTV systems and solar security lights were destroyed.

Yet in the midst of the storm, we witnessed God’s remarkable protection. Not a single building was struck by the falling trees. No vehicles were damaged, and most importantly, no one was injured. We praise the Lord for His preserving hand and give Him all the glory.

BCEA Campus Church

The Lord has continued to bless the ministry of the church. We observed Communion services in both December and April. During the Easter season, we rejoiced to administer eight infant baptisms and two adult baptisms. We were also encouraged to witness two young people make their public profession of faith before the congregation.

One particularly meaningful moment for our family was seeing our third child, Hahyun, complete his catechism studies and publicly testify of his faith before the church. As parents, it was a joyful reminder that the Lord continues His covenant work from one generation to the next. Please continue to pray that the children and young people of the church may grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

International Covenant College (Rwanda)

Earlier this year, Eben had the privilege of attending the Inauguration Service of International Covenant College (ICC) in Rwanda. It was a deeply moving occasion to witness the official opening of this new ministry. Seeing how the Lord has opened doors for Christian and theological education in Rwanda was a great encouragement to all who attended.

What especially impressed Eben was witnessing the sacrificial and tireless labor of Rev. and Mrs. Kim. Their commitment to establishing and developing this ministry was both humbling and challenging. Seeing firsthand what the Lord has accomplished through their faithful service reminded me once again that God’s work advances through ordinary servants who are willing to be used by Him.

Pray that the Lord would use ICC mightily in the years ahead to train faithful pastors, church leaders, and Christian workers for the advancement of His kingdom throughout Rwanda and beyond.

Tanzania Campus (BCEA-TZ)

Another special blessing this year was the opportunity to attend the graduation service of the Bible College of East Africa Tanzania Campus. It is always Eben’s delight to attend graduation ceremonies and witness how God continues to raise up servants for His harvest field. Though he is no longer directly involved in the daily operations of that campus, many of you may remember praying for this ministry during its early years.

By God’s grace, the ministry is now faithfully led by Dr. and Mrs. Park, who have carried the work forward with great dedication. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Tanzania campus. We praise God for His faithfulness in preserving the ministry, providing students, and continually bringing forth fruit through its graduates. Please continue to pray that the Lord will bless the Tanzania campus and continue to use it to prepare faithful servants for East Africa.

Church Building Ministries

The Lord is also to be thanked for the completion of the Kwa Kilui Church Building Project.

Construction was completed in April, but because of unusually heavy rains, the dedication service was postponed until May 25. It was a great joy to worship together in the completed sanctuary and dedicate the building to the Lord’s service. We sincerely thank all who prayed for this project. The completion of the church building stands as a testimony of God’s faithfulness and provision.

As one project concludes, another opportunity has emerged. We are prayerfully preparing to begin a church building project in the Mitaboni area. Please pray that the Lord will provide wisdom, protection, and all that is needed as plans move forward.

Family Updates

Haeun has graduated from the university, and has accepted a nursing position at a hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, under the OPT program available to international students. For this we thank the Lord. In the months ahead, she will be preparing for her RN examination and considering future graduate studies. Immigration-related decisions may also become necessary in the future. Pray that the Lord will clearly direct her steps and guide her future according to His will.

Hajin plans to travel to Korea in June to prepare for his mandatory military service. Lord willing, he hopes to enter military service in September. Since he has spent most of his life overseas, this will be a significant adjustment. Please pray that he will be assigned to a suitable unit, adapt well to military life, and be a faithful witness for Christ wherever he serves.

Hahyun now has two years remaining in high school. As he begins to consider future educational and vocational decisions, please pray that the Lord will grant wisdom and clear direction.

Hael is our youngest. We thank God for His continued growth and development. Pray that he may continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord, walk faithfully with Christ, and experience God’s guidance throughout his life.

ICCC World Congress in Kenya

This July, Kenya will host the ICCC World Congress. While we do not anticipate being heavily involved in the organization of the meetings, would you pray that the congress will strengthen missions, encourage local churches, and promote the faithful proclamation of the Gospel. May the Lord be glorified through every aspect of the meetings and fellowship.

Conclusion: Thank you, always, for your love, prayers, and faithful support. As Paul reminds us in Galatians 6:9, we must not grow weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not. The Lord continues to call laborers, save souls, strengthen churches, and extend His kingdom. We are grateful that you share in this ministry through your prayers and encouragement. Your partnership has been a tremendous blessing to us, and we are continually encouraged knowing that faithful co-laborers around the world stand with us in the work of the Gospel. We rejoice in what the Lord has done thus far, and we look forward with expectation to all that He will continue to do—for His glory and for the expansion of His kingdom.

In Christ,
Eben, Mijung, Haeun, Hajin, Hahyun, & Hael
