Dear Prayer Partners and Friends,
A very big THANK YOU to each one who prayed and gave, so that our Kenyan pastors could attend the ICCC Congress in Nakuru in July. We have heard many wonderful reports, and “thank you” from these pastors. Plans were made, and we thought everything was taken care of. They found that the hotel they planned to stay at did not include their food (another $3,500 was needed). However, brother Wambua said that, “We should live within our means”, and redid everything. He cancelled the hotel and rented rooms at an Airbnb, hired two ladies to cook for everyone, and bought food for the group. All this was done with the funds that were sent, and even had money left over to give to the pastors $39 to buy whatever then needed to “look smart” for the meetings.
In the end, they did enjoy the time together in the rooms. The food was great, they looked good, and did enjoy their morning devotions together before the meetings started. They were so thankful to be able to meet so many pastors from other parts of Kenya as well as other countries. It is something that they will never forget, with new messages to bring, and will talk about it for years to come.
An added delight for the pastors was a visit to the Nakuru National Park for a day. They were taken in vans to see all kinds of game, such as zebras, wildebeests, giraffes and various kinds of antelope. This was an experience that none of them have ever had, and a great story to tell their families at home.
After the ICCC there were 13 who were able to visit the Isovya property: the Bjurs and a friend from Chile, Purdee Yeo from Australia, John Smith from Iowa, and Daniel Matamala and seven others from Chile. They were able to speak at churches on Sunday, have a Bible Club at one church, give out Vitamin A to church children, and visit homes. They also shared the Word with the wood carvers, who came to sell their goods. The visit was a real encouragement to the pastors and the people of the area.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Colossians 3:16.
The past few weeks things have not been good for us. We both have had coughs – some say a summer cold. Gary is feeling better, but Pat is still coughing. Would you pray that we will both be feeling better and be able to be “busy” again?
If you haven’t seen us in a while, well, we have been visiting different supporting churches. It has been a blessing to see so many of you once again.
As we look forward, we ask for your prayer as we go to Shanksville, PA, in remembrance of the 9/11 Flight 93. It is a blessing to be there and give out “I Love America” tee-shirts, Gospels of John, along with various tracts and Christian literature. We have met some people who had lost love ones there, and many who just come to respect those lost, knowing “We Will Never Forget”.
Again, we thank you for your continued support, your prayers, and for all that you have done for us and the pastors. May God bless each one of you.
In His Service,
Gary and Pat Johnson
