For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness;
but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18
Dear brethren, we send you warm greetings from Chilean Patagonia. We would like to begin our report by reflecting on the preaching of the cross. The message of Christ’s cross may elicit rejection, mockery, or indifference, yet it is the most important message there is. The message of the cross is the message we must proclaim; it is this message—foolishness to many—that holds the power to save. The only way for God’s elect to be saved is through the faithful proclamation of the cross. Are you sharing the message of the cross? We hope so. And if you are not, we encourage you to speak of Christ—of His sacrifice on the cross, His burial, His death, and His resurrection—for the salvation of everyone who believes in Him.
We thank God for each one who remains steadfast in prayer and participates in the missionary work through prayer and offerings for us. This report summarizes the last four months.
- Father’s Day celebration. We had a delightful afternoon tea with the fathers of the congregation. It was a time of fellowship and community, helping to further strengthen the bonds of brotherhood. We are grateful to the sisters who prepared so many delicious treats for us to share. May God guide fathers to be an example of the Christian life and lead their children in the ways of the Lord.
- Winter Holiday Bible Club. This year, we held our winter club from July 14th to 18th. The theme was “A Heart Pleasing to God,” based on the story of David. God blessed us with a total attendance of 16 children and three mothers who accompanied their kids. We hosted the club in our home, with Sister Carolina Ojeda assisting in the preparation of prizes and keepsakes.
During this Bible club, some children marked a full year of attendance, which brings us great joy. We ask that you continue to pray for each of them—that they remain faithful to God and secure in their salvation—and that their parents may be reached by the Gospel. - Participation in the International Council of Christian Churches (ICCC).
God allowed Daniel and Daniel Josías to travel to Kenya to attend the ICCC Congress in Nakuru (July 22-29). It was a wonderful time of fellowship with brethren from all over the world.
The journey was very long (36 hours of flying and layovers) to reach Nairobi —followed by a four-hour van ride to Nakuru. God enabled a lovely Chilean delegation to make the trip, though we missed the many others who were unable to attend.
God gave Daniel the opportunity to preach on, “Always Spreading the Good News of the Prince of Peace.” He also presented a short session at a youth workshop, with nearly 60 young people. It was a beautiful time of edification, fellowship, and work. The Kenyan brethren were incredibly kind.
In addition to this work, we were able to sing to the Lord alongside the group from Chile, and Daniel Josías had the honor of serving as our country’s flag-bearer during the service where the delegations were introduced. We also reconnected with pastors and friends from the Isovya area, where we had visited in 2022—and, of course, with our host and friend, Bishop Geoffrey Litunya Buliba.
- Missionary trip to Isovya. The day after the conference ended (July 30), God allowed us to travel to Isovya, for the second time, to preach the Gospel and distribute medicines to children, young people, and adults in the area. On this occasion, a group of eight of us from Chile made the trip. Our team consisted of Francisco García and his children, Florencia (15) and Mateo (12), along with Constanza (24), Joaquín (20), and Benjamín Sandoval (19).
The team stayed at the Isovya Team House in the Kisasi Sub-county of Kitui County, where they carried out all their preparatory work. We thank God for that facility as it now has electricity and is fully equipped for cooking and getting proper rest.
God enabled us to work there for 11 days. We arrived very late on the night of Thursday, July 30th. The journey began at 9:00 a.m. and ended at 10:00 p.m., as we encountered mechanical issues with our van. The brakes failed an hour and a half after leaving Nakuru, and—near the end of the trip, just 15 minutes from our destination—we suffered a flat tire. God protected us, and despite these setbacks, we arrived safely.
A children’s Bible club program was conducted at four churches. We also organized games using balloons and ropes, which the children (even the youth and adults) thoroughly enjoyed. We taught an evangelistic lesson and helped the children memorize a Bible verse and a short song.
Thanks to the generous contributions of fellow believers, we were able to distribute 400 sets of crayons and coloring pages, 400 toothbrushes, some toothpaste, and 400 multivitamins and antiparasitic treatments. God enabled us to share the Gospel with over 400 children and more than 500 people in total. The Lord’s saving Gospel was proclaimed in distant lands; we ask for your prayers that the Holy Spirit may bring forth fruit in the form of conversion and repentance.
Furthermore, while in Isovya, we were able to share the Gospel with five wood-carvers who visited us and conducted Bible lessons for about forty children who came by daily—in addition to playing with them.
Beyond the work done at the churches, we used the time to clean all the roofs and gutters at the Team House, thereby facilitating water collection for the rainy season. We are filled with joy over the work accomplished; we simply want to thank God—for even though we may not be the most qualified, He blessed us with this wonderful opportunity to bring spiritual and physical well-being to this community in Kitui.
It is important to note that we did not receive financial contributions from any organization, as everything was funded by the individual members who made the trip. The only exceptions were the offerings we received from fellow believers, which we used to purchase medicines, vitamins, and bottled water (there is no potable water in the area), as well as to cover transportation within the Kitui region (where there is no public transport).
We would like to introduce you to a brother who plays a vital role in the work in Isovya. Known simply as one of the night-watchman, his name is Nyamai Mylio. He has worked for many years on the premises owned by the IBPFM, dedicating his life to looking after the property, the missionaries, and every brother who comes to serve in the mission field. We ask that you pray for him. This brother welcomed us with a smile every day. He is elderly and speaks very little English, yet he taught us a great deal about faithfulness and devotion in serving our God.
- Our Missionary Future. We are deeply grateful to God for the time He has allowed us to work in Punta Arenas. We thank the brothers and sisters who continue to pray for us and for the work in this city. Our period of service in this mission field has been extended by another year. We thank God for revealing His will to us.
In the love of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Matamala Colpi Family
