Station Report: Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa
E-mail: bceakim@gmail.com
Dear Co-laborers in the Lord,
Greetings from Nairobi in the most precious Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. By God’s grace, we are carrying on the task and work that He has entrusted to us. We praise the Lord and thank you for your continued prayer and sacrificial support, through which He provides us with wisdom, strength, and support to press on. You are in our thoughts and prayers, and we would like to share some recent news of what has been happening here.
Update 1: Bible College of East Africa
August was a very meaningful month for the BCEA community. An alumni reunion (below) was held on the compound from August 27 to 30, and nearly 120 alumni visited for corporate study of God’s Word, sharing of testimonies, and blessed fellowship. We had the privilege of having Rev. Keith Coleman as the guest speaker, and he presented a series of lectures on the epistle to the Philippians. The College was also blessed by the presence of his wife, Mrs. Milan Coleman. This momentous gathering also produced the first batch of official appointments for the alumni association. Please be in prayer for Rev Amos Nganga, who will spearhead the association as the chair. We pray and trust that the Lord will use the association to strengthen and edify BCEA alumni as they engage in His work across East Africa.
A new academic term for BCEA began on September 10, with 118 students registered for coursework. We are especially thankful for the prayerful spirit that has been present among the students since the start of the term. May the students continue to depend upon Him through prayer as they continue their study and service. Praise God for brother James Chen from Singapore, who is serving as lecturer this term. His calm and diligent demeanor has been a blessing to the BCEA family. We are also blessed by the continued service of our daughter Deborah as New Testament lecturer, and we pray that she will fulfill her calling. Please be in prayer for a Korean couple who newly joined as students this term, that they may adjust well and grow spiritually and academically during their stay here. We must also request your prayers for a second-year student named Joyce, who has been experiencing serious health issues. She had heart surgery in the past and is now experiencing stroke symptoms. She is an extremely bright and exceptional student, and it is our prayer that the Lord will guide her into service for Him and enable her to develop her gifts for His glory.
Update 2: Bible College of East Africa, Tanzania Campus
The fourth graduation ceremony of BCEA (TZ) took place on September 1. There were five graduates, and we pray that they will be faithful and depend on the Lord as they engage in their ministries. Currently 18 students are studying at this campus. In great news, the BCEA (TZ) community now has a new co-laborer, Dr. Kwang Jae Choi, who is the former president of the International Council of Christian Churches (ICCC). He has committed himself to serve the Lord in Tanzania, and we pray and trust that the Lord will use him as an instrument of truth and blessing in this ministry.
Important Prayer Request: The Threat of Terror
Kenya has been experiencing significant turmoil and violence due to its struggle against Al-Shabaab terror and tribal clashes near the Tana River. We anticipate further violence and increased crime levels in the months ahead, as the presidential elections are just a few months away (March 2013). Please join us in prayer for the safety of our students, staff, and missionaries in Kenya and Tanzania. We also covet your prayers for our health. May the Lord strengthen our bodies and galvanize our hearts to serve Him in ways that please Him for His glory.
Thank you and God Bless!
Rev. & Mrs. Kyung Soo Kim
