Serving the Lord in the Andes Mission

April, 2024

“Sing forth honor of his name: make his praise glorious.” Psalm 66:2

Dear brothers and sisters in the faith, we greet you in Christ Jesus. We are very grateful for our good heavenly Father’s mercy on our lives and our loved ones also. May we thank each one of you for supporting us in the ministry of this mission field through your prayers and financial help. May our God be gracious to you.

Family

Our God is to be thanked for the children he has blessed us with. Although they are living far away from us, they continue to persevere in the ways of the Lord. We are happy to share with you that our daughter, Melissa Noemi, is participating in Christian service at her university. She, along with other young people, are going to teach the Word of God to children in a plaza. She is mainly in charge of translating for the Hispanic children who attend. Also, thank God she has had a good academic semester.

Evangelization Outreach

As the Word of God says, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15), on Sunday, March 10th, we conducted an evangelistic outreach as a church. We went to a market near the church to hand out gospel tracts and share the Word of God to others. Praise God that those who were present were very receptive to listening to us and accepting the tracts. We trust that the seed planted in their hearts will continue to grow, and that one day they will accept Jesus as their Savior.

Holy Week Congress

May God be praised for the opportunity we had to participate in the Holy Week Congress that took place from March 28-30 in the city of Iquique, Chile (northern part of the country). It was a beautiful occasion to meet as brothers and sisters in the faith, as brethren from our church (Berea), Manantial Church (Arica), El Sembrador Church (Iquique), and even brethren from the Presbyterian Church of Bolivia came to participate in this congress. The Congress was held in the facilities of the El Sembrador Church, which received all the brethren with much Christian love. This Congress was one of great blessing and spiritual growth. Also, as part of the program of the Congress, special recognition was given to the missionaries of the northern zone, sisters Melody Bjur and Janeth Jara (pictured right). Their love for Christ was recognized, which has led them both to serve the Lord for several years in the city of Arica.

Pastoral house

After many years of prayer, with thanks to God’s provision, we have been able to begin with the construction of a pastoral house attached to our Berea Church building. The purpose of this addition is to be able to accommodate a pastor in the future who can assist in the work of the Lord in this area, since the need is very great. It is our desire that the work of the Lord continues to grow here. We believe that this will help with the availability of someone to help in this area, since the rent in the city of Arica has increased considerably. We ask you to pray for this project, believing that God will indeed guide us and use it for His will and glory.

Prayer requests

            1. Pray for the health of Janeth, that God will give her the physical strength to continue in the work of the ministry here.

            2. Pray for the National Congress of MUPREF (Congress of Fundamentalist Presbyterian Women) to be held in Arica, November 8-10 this year. We expect the attendance of about 250 ladies from all over Chile. Because of this, we pray that the Lord will provide a facility that can cover that number of people.

Finally, we send fraternal greetings to each of you. May God bless you and your families. May we be kept faithful to Him, and His Word, until the day of His coming.

                                                                                                    in Christ,

Rev. Jonathan, Janeth, Ruth Meylí, and Melissa Jara
