“The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord…Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established…A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps” (Proverbs 16:1-9)
Dear prayer partners, we greet you trusting that your heart and body always be at peace through the presence of the Lord. We wish to share with you a number of items from our ministry here in Guatemala.
Christian Middle School Establishment Project
The past few weeks have been very discouraging for us due to the severe cold and the inevitable change of the school project. The school’s registration process, which was proceeding smoothly, was halted due to the failure of the inspection of the school building by the Environment Department. The building owner, who had promised to rent to us, suddenly canceled the lease. It is a situation where liability cannot be held because it occurred under a verbal contract without any financial transactions or documents being signed. We are urgently looking for another location, but it is difficult to find one in a short period of time. The project to establish a Christian school is mainly headed by three local educators from Patzicia, and we are cooperating in all aspects. The reason we sincerely hope to establish a Christian school is because we want students to grow through learning, sharing, and meditating in the Word of God more freely. Our experience at Zion Middle School over the past 15 years led us to start this project as we realized that there were many restrictions and limitations for Christian education in a regular school. As two years have now passed since we started and planned for this project, the moments of exhaustion and disappointment are increasing. However, we believe that the One who gave us this heart’s desire, the One who makes this request come true, and the One who guides the plan is only our God. With the burden of disappointment on our hearts, we take small steps forward today by faith and anticipation on the mighty works of our God.
Dear prayer partners, we earnestly need your prayers. Would you please pray with us for this project, even if it is a reality where you cannot see a single cloud? Please pray for us to secure the right space necessary to establish a Christian school where the youth in the small town of Patzicia can have more fulfilling lives through the Word of God.
Patzicia Scholarship Students
Plans are in the works to start Bible study and English classes for only the scholarship students we are sponsoring. We have been forced to look for a new place to hold these classes, as the one is no longer available. Caleb has a meeting with the Mayor of Patzicia, to request any space available for this use. The mayor’s children are students who attended an English Bible study class with us, so we expect to have a
good result out of this meeting. Caleb visited several churches to explore the possibility of providing a place, but did not receive any positive response. Currently, we are meeting with scholarship students individually, to share the Word and encourage them, with hopes to teach them the Bible more thoroughly. For this, we need an empty office or some available room. Please pray with us for this project.
Cindy is currently a sophomore in college. We have been sponsoring her for two years so far and will sponsor her for the remaining three years of her college education. She is majoring in agricultural engineering to help her parents’ farm. She is a diligent student and serves as a leader of the kindergarten Sunday School team at her church. All of her brothers and sisters are also hard workers helping the family. She has been somewhat stressed because her schooling has kept her from working and helping the family. We pray together and encourage her often. Please pray for Cindy so that she can successfully complete the remaining three years of her course.
Gustavo (left) and Jonathan (right), are both in high school and are majoring in computer science; but they did not have a computer. We thank the Lord that we were able to provide used computers, in good condition, for both of these boys and thus help them in their studies. When you think about it, please pray for us that we would be enabled to support more students in the future, so they may achieve a higher education. If the Lord lays on your heart a desire to help in this way, please mark your donation accordingly.
Sumpango Public Middle and High School English Class
Every Monday and Thursday, we teach English and share Bible verses at Sumpango Public Middle and High School. Though it is a short time where we cannot share much, we pray that the Word of God will be remembered in their hearts and bear fruit in their lives. What we are doing now is sowing a small seed, but we believe that this seed will grow and produce fruit one day.
Family News
We finally bought a new car. It will take three weeks to arrive. We are deeply grateful to the Lord for allowing you to bless us with such generous support. We pray for safety on the road wherever we travel carrying the Word of God. Once again, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has prayed for and supported this project.
Debra’s rash is still there, but she is thankful that it has not gotten worse. The cause is unknown, so she is being cautious. Would you pray for her full recovery.
Please pray for Joshua’s work permit through which the conditions for maintaining a stable life in Belgium will be met. Pray for him to have a daily prayer time to remember God’s presence with him.
These days we have had lots of damage from flooding here in Guatemala, such as road loss and sink holes. There are serious health risks with flu and dengue fever, due to temperature changes and mosquitoes. It is impossible to open a window due to the mosquitoes nearby and the chemical smell caused by the special environment of the area where we live. Nevertheless, we are grateful to the Lord for always protecting us, even in these situations.
Our beloved prayer partners, likewise, the presence of the Lord will be revealed to you through your own difficult and hard circumstances.
In His endless love, Caleb and Debra Kang
